The Historic Santa Maria Inn

I stayed here for two nights and for $150 a night I thought that was outrageous. The hotel is old and I'm not saying that in a quaint way but in a '70s retro way. The rooms are clean the staff is very friendly. At least if you're going to charge $150 for a room you can at least offer a continental breakfast with some decent coffee. The sad part of it is yes they did offer breakfast a $20 a plate all you could eat breakfast. I don't think I'll be staying here again and I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

Unfortunately, this place has highly skewed ratings. I find it shocking that it could maintain a 4.2 rating. While fairly clean, it’s extremely dated but not only that, the finishing are low quality and poorly executed (cheap bathroom sink, poorly grouted tiles in the bathroom, dripped paint on molding). Overall, it smells musky, dusty, and of chemical cleaners. There are whirring sounds from the fridge and pipes. There is a microwave. The room is on the small side with an old wall heater. I’m terribly disappointed and the $20 we saved by not staying at the Best Western would have been better spent to be able to settle in for the night as opposed to inventorying how unsatisfactory this hotel and room feels in comparison to the reviews. I feel duped by the sites this is listed on and obviously frustrated. Think twice before booking a stay here, even though, admittedly, it could be worse. Th bed was comfortable, but the pillow was lumpy. There was no coffee in the room or hotel, when asked, she said “the restaurant is closed unfortunately.”

We stayed in the newer section and thought our room was large and very comfortable. Would have been nice to have a microwave. We didn't like the $20 pp breakfast at all! Free breakfasts at other hotels were way better. The next day some of the family went to Starbucks and some to the Pantry which was way better. Enjoyed food, wine and cocktails in the Cellar. Staff at the front desk were nice. The gym is extra small and the yoga mat was dirty and worn but other equipment worked ok. No way more than 2 people can work out there. Pool was large and spa was taken over with kids so passed on that. No towels available. It's a very cool older hotel.

It is a charming hotel made in 1917. We stayed a night on our way down California and found the architecture, both inside and outside, and the grounds in the back (with pool) very pleasant. While some parts of the room felt dated, it added to the character. Ultimately, we enjoyed our stay and would come again if we were in the area.

Stayed two nights here and was really pleased with the experience. The rooms are a bit old but I was expecting that given the name of the hotel, lol (The Historic Santa Maria Inn). My room was clean and quiet and my bed was comfortable. Front desk staff were super helpful and friendly. At one point I opened my window and was having trouble closing it again; someone from maintenance hopped up there and fixed it for me within minutes. It was fun wandering around in the hotel looking at pictures and antique decor. I also appreciated the gratis popcorn which, fun fact, is vegan. I definitely had everything I needed. I’d stay here again.
