We stopped over during a roadtrip to visit the San Diego Botanical Gardens. At the time, early May there was as well an exhibition of orchids. Don’t remember the price but was about 18$ per adult, for the orchids there was an additional fee. The gardens are pleasant to walk through, though rather wild and left us a bit in disappointment in comparison with botanical gardens we have seen in Europe and Japan.
The variety was a bit missing maybe in plants, we were missing some colours. It was a nice walk through though and it was rather maintained with friendly personnel and visitors. Several benches also for rest as well as toilets and necessities to move kids around with trolleys. There is also a shuttle service that can help you moving around. The park is a bit hilly at times. There is also some kids space but nothing too large i would say.
For the orchids exhibition it was ok, but nothing really special. A bit cramped into one small place with many people visiting.
All in all it is a nice visit for a weekend stroll to unwind. We found parking easily even though it may have been one of the last available parking spots.

Great for kids! We took our young botanist and had a blast. They allow wagons and stroller which saves little legs. It doesn’t feel too crowded and has lots of fun little trails. The kids play areas are fun, but the look out tower was covered in ants. Really only qualm on our visit today.

During a visit to the San Diego Botanical Gardens, I was filled with anticipation, considering the region's renowned climate and its potential for lush, vibrant landscapes. While the gardens are indeed a pleasant retreat, offering a decent variety of flora and serene walkways, I must confess they didn't quite live up to the high expectations I had set based on other botanical gardens I've had the pleasure of visiting.
The San Diego climate, known for its warmth and sunshine, seems like it would be the perfect backdrop for an expansive and exotic collection of plants and flowers. However, I found the variety and presentation at the San Diego Botanical Gardens to be somewhat lacking in comparison. It's certainly nice, with well-maintained paths, a peaceful atmosphere, and several lovely spots to sit and take in the surroundings, but it doesn't quite offer the wow factor or the educational depth I've encountered elsewhere.
That said, there are definitely highlights worth mentioning. The garden does offer a few unique specimens and themed sections that capture the imagination, and it's clear that the staff puts a lot of effort into the maintenance and design of the space. It's a good place for a leisurely stroll, to unwind, or even to find a quiet spot for reading or reflection.
The admission price is reasonable, and considering the effort that goes into keeping the gardens beautiful, it feels fair. The facility also hosts events and educational programs from time to time, which I can imagine would add value to a visit.
In conclusion, while the San Diego Botanical Gardens might not have left me as awestruck as some other gardens have, it remains a nice spot for those looking to enjoy a bit of nature. A gorgeous place filled with lushes greens, flowers, gardens, fruits, trees of all types from various places. Every species has a name and description of orgins and native roots. Plan to take your time, to enjoy all of mothers nature beauty. The birds were singing beautifully and the pictures are magical.

I came here a while ago and it’s a nice place to go to. I like to walk around and see plants. The people there are kind and the tickets are reasonable. There is a map and it’s a spacious place. Overall, there is parking available there and it’s great for anyone. Would definitely come back again.
