In its history as a private social club, the fourth floor served as the stately dining hall for The Commercial Club’s powerful members. The now-reimagined space remains steeped in period charms and beautiful natural light, with coffered ceilings, arched windows, and original stenciled ceilings.

Jun 19, 2022 This was one of the most spectacular hotels I have literally ever stayed at in my life. I was greeted at the door with my hotel key after having left bags at the checkout counter so I could go about touring the city while I waited for our room to be ready. When I returned from touring, the door was opened for me and the doorman handed me my room key telling me that our bags were already in our room and ready to go. It was also my partners birthday, and when we entered the room, we walked in to a complimentary bottle of wine and a beautifully presented dessert with an extremely delightful personalized note just for him. I have never been so blown away and grateful for such incredible service. Personal and alert at ALL times. I can’t wait to stay at this hotel again. The upstairs rooftop bar, and the downstairs restaurant we’re both immaculately clean and the food was top-notch, flavor and presentation. The dinner was phenomenal, and I have never had such a gorgeous avocado toast breakfast in my life. Amber and three other gentleman at the front desk helped us throughout our stay, and she was so helpful and attentive to our tourist-y needs, with all kinds of amazing recommendations for fun things to do in the city, and exactly how to get there. I wish I was better with names because our server at the restaurant was just the sweetest, and the entire restaurant and hotel was full of this-fabulous service focused on giving an amazing experience. I am beyond grateful for everything this hotel did for us, and I can’t wait to be back again.

Dec 12, 2022 Our stay was a whole experience and it truly went beyond what we were expecting from a hotel. We love to go and explore restaurants and bars away from our stay but at the Proper, we didn't have to go far at all. The rooftop bar has such a great vibe, excellent drinks and the best panoramic view of the city. My husband and I arrived a day before our group and we went up to check it out and grab a drink before bed. Upon arrival, I just knew I had to make a reservation for our entire group for the following night. Everyone loved it, as expected. The whole place is a work of art and the wonderful staff was the cherry on top.
We will be returning for sure!

Aug 11, 2022 Wow! This hotel has one of the best designs I’ve ever seen. Every corner you find a design detail. Super hip hotel without being fancy. Excellent food and beverages. Roof top is awesome! Breakfast delicious. Very Nice rooms with comfortable beds and great bathrooms. Totally recommended. Valet parking is expensive but good service. Well done Proper hotels….!!

Aug 20, 2022 OVERALL: if in downtown LA, stay here, you won't regret it. Beautiful rooms, comfy, very luxurious shower.
ROOMS: beautiful, and look in real exactly as they do on the pictures they use in their ads, spacious, quiet (apart from some street noise, but it's downtown LA, wasn't crazy). Bathroom is spacious and beautiful, with nice Aesop amenities.
FOR LIGHT SLEEPERS: suitable - blackout blinds make the room dark, and there are almost no disturbing lights in the room, your bed is away from the hallway door around a corner, so it's quiet and dark fir a good night's sleep.
FOOD & DRINK: because from the room, I trusted their quality, I actually decided to order room service rather than eat out, and I wasn't disappointed: tasty, nice portion of Cobb salad with a delicious marzipan cake, absolutely delicious. So next morning I also decided to have breakfast there, but that's a bit of a letdown in comparison, very expensive, and nothing special, that's probably also why there were so few people there.

Sep 13, 2022 My partner James & I stayed at this hotel a couple of days ago for a birthday weekend & had a wonderful time! The interior design of the spaces are beautiful & the customer service was truly top notch. We especially appreciated the valet staff, Alex was always so friendly, and the late night concierge that checked us in at 11pm. We would absolutely come back again & will be recommending the Proper to our friends!
