Urban camping at its best. Small campgrounds with fewer than 50 sites, each one padded with bark mulch. No hookups, but there is a section permitting generators and a tent-only section. Two clean bathroom facilities with 4 stalls and 2 hot showers, no coins needed. Trails of different lengths and difficulty levels offer something for everyone. Star Parties on the first Friday of the month by the San Diego Astronomy Association in the Day Use lot covered by solar panels, are awesome and free. Bring your camera and binoculars to view the hawks, hummingbirds and deer around the lake trail originating from the campground and various trails. They come in handy to watch the rock climbers, too. There is a two mile bike and pedestrian only lane from the campground to the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center has a well-curated nature exhibits, art gallery and library with a viewing deck overlooking the Gorge. The entrance features a nature-inspired walkway with realistic animal sculptures, info stations and bird sounds of each bird. The rangers and host are helpful and friendly. Finally, there are multiple stores and restaurants five minutes away. The only negatives are the freeway sounds from Hwy 52 and Mission Gorge Road.

Great regional park with various hiking trails that span 5 peaks. Wonderful visitor's center filled with educational material on the history, geography & biology of the area. I went on a Wednesday morning and it wasn't crowded at all. The best part about it all is the visitor center, parking, facilities & trails are all free!

Wonderful and easy hike on pavement. Great for dogs, and anyone at any skill level. I commented on how accessible it would be for someone with mobility issues. Yet, you’re literally walking through a beautiful brush desert and get to see the historical Old Mission Dam. Very slight elevation changes. No large hills or drop-offs. Highly recommended!

Wonderful and easy hike on pavement. Great for dogs, and anyone at any skill level. I commented on how accessible it would be for someone with mobility issues. Yet, you’re literally walking through a beautiful brush desert and get to see the historical Old Mission Dam. Very slight elevation changes. No large hills or drop-offs. Highly recommended!

This is an ideal early morning hiking spot. It’s got that good challenge as it’s a good elevation gain, but also one with a rewarding view at the top. Some tarantula spiders out there - most prolly snakes too but since there is heavy foot traffic, the latter is very infrequent. Good amount of parking lot. A bit rocky and it might force you to use your hands at times. Overall one of the moderate hiking spots I’ve enjoyed 3 times in two weeks.

Lots of hikes you can do. The trails are all labeled. Bring water with you, there is not a lot of shade. We did not see any rattle snakes, but it's a big area, so they're probably around. Also take sunscreen. There are a couple of decent sized parking lots including an overflow lot, so you hopefully will not have trouble parking. It was a blast.
