A large number of our wedding guests (family and friends) stayed at the Lodge at Marconi (we booked the whole hotel) last May, and we hosted the Welcome Party there on Friday (the day before the wedding). We had a fabulous experience all around! We used a caterer recommended by the manager at the Lodge at Marconi for the party, and he was amazing. The staff at the Lodge was wonderful (very helpful and understanding of our large crew running around…kudos to Leah, Daniel, Patrick, Dawn, and the others whose names I’m forgetting) and the setting unparalleled. I ended up staying a few days after the wedding to unwind, and it was heaven. Highlights were the common areas and the rooms (love the decor), the views of the bay and the sunset from the upper lawn, the walking trails, the fire pit, and the all-around natural beauty. It set the scene for a perfect wedding weekend. Can’t wait to go back!

Horrible wedding venue! NO accommodation for elderly nor handicapped. Lodge rooms were modern rustic but were very cold and the baseboard heating did not warm up the rooms. No microwave, no restaurant, no room service, no way to eat at hotel. Long, uneven staircases to all rooms. They made us, the groom's elderly parents, change rooms 3 hours before the wedding, claiming that we had purposely booked 2 different types of rooms for the 2 nights. (We booked over 6 months in advance. You would think they would have asked if there was a question about the rooms.) Horrible service. Nobody to help with luggage, no luggage carts, WAY overpriced. We paid $327 per night for a King bed AND for a smaller room with 2 queens. Expensive "instant" foods like oatmeal cost $12 each in a paper cup. No real activities nor things to do other than walking around their property. No other activities nor restaurants nearby. No TVs anywhere. We DO NOT RECOMMEND Lodge at Marconi.

So I read through a bunch of reviews and didn't see one of the more interesting facts about the Lodge. It's on the site of a former cult. Several buildings date back to the early 1900s when it was a radio transmission station. Some of those buildings have been restored for conferences but some appear to be in their abandoned state. Definitely worth a look around the property if you like true crime and mysteries. The buildings where the hotel rooms are have been nicely restored. They seem to be from the early 80s but have a mid century vibe. They have some options that are perfect for families. The room I stayed in had a big bed downstairs and a twin upstairs that was great for my son. They apparently have some vintage and original Heath tile, depending on the room. I'm not sure which one my room had but it was gorgeous. The service was friendly and casual. It was more like the feeling of being at a mountain retreat. One of the staff joined the nightly fire pit gathering. The other guests there at the time were friendly and social. Anyway I have no hesitation to recommend the Lodge, and would consider it a can't miss if you're interested in the history of the Synanon cult or the property.

Their pet policy is baffling; not only do you have to pay a fee, but you also can’t leave your dog unattended if you’re attending an event. So, if you plan to bring a pet, be prepared to leave it in the car, as the hotel doesn’t provide kennels despite their high charges. There’s no breakfast service, no coffee maker, or tea kettle in the room, forcing you to pay exorbitant prices at their market. The location and trails are beautiful, but I’d only come here for an event.

The location is beautiful, setback on a hill, deep in wooded area over looking the bay. Lots to see and do around the area.
But…for $450 a night I was expecting more of the hotel and room itself. Sorry…I mean $550 per night as we had 2 dogs and they are an extra $50 each.
There’s no bar, no restaurant, no ice machine…but ‘breakfast’ is a joke!
Coffee from a pressurized flask ( which ran out when I was using it) Bananas and apples. ‘Specialist’ coffee was available but because they only had one coffee machine they were backed up.
Maybe I’m expecting too much. But for $550 I want more than that.
It’s an upscale hostel.
I won’t be back as I’m sure for $550, there is better accommodation in the area.
Added note: the acoustic insulation in the building is awful. Woke up super early because you can clearly hear people walking/talking/moving things around and walking up and down stairs elsewhere in the building .
But hey…if you like all that stuff…have at it.
