I've been a visitor to Kit Carson Lodge over many years, and I've always loved this place. It's perfect for quiet times on beautiful Silver Lake and for those who love a classic, rustic Sierra experience. It's like the lodges I went to as a kid, decades ago. It's an excellent base for kayaking and day hikes around the Kirkwood & Carson Pass area. My one piece of advice for visitors is to bring extra food -- and for management & staff to make clear that they offer only a continental breakfast, and that dinner hours might vary day-to-day. Many guests are there to enjoy outdoor activities (like strenuous hikes) and will work up an appetite, so access to a good meal at the start and end of each day is important. There are very few dining options in the area, but the staff didn't seem to know the days/hours of the few other eateries. We had to drive a great distance to find a solid breakfast before a long hike, and we scrambled to find a dinner option when the lodge's restaurant closed early one evening, unannounced. When we failed to find one, the staff DID come to our rescue and re-opened the kitchen to prepare dinner for us. They were very kind and gracious about it -- but the situation could have been avoided with better planning and communication. All told, Kit Carson Lodge is wonderful, and I recommend it highly. They just need to adjust the dining situation a bit.

We were a group of 13 at Kit Carson (across 8 rooms) and we had a lovely stay! Sam, the manager, is a wonderful host. He took great care of all guests and made sure everyone had whatever was needed throughout the stay. Chef Marcus was also incredibly hospitable and had a delicious menu that we enjoyed all four days of our trip. The location was spectacular right next to Silver Lake and is the perfect location for visiting other nearby destinations in the Sierras. Looking forward to returning soon!

We were a group of 13 at Kit Carson (across 8 rooms) and we had a lovely stay! Sam, the manager, is a wonderful host. He took great care of all guests and made sure everyone had whatever was needed throughout the stay. Chef Marcus was also incredibly hospitable and had a delicious menu that we enjoyed all four days of our trip. The location was spectacular right next to Silver Lake and is the perfect location for visiting other nearby destinations in the Sierras. Looking forward to returning soon!

Sam the general manager was absolutely wonderful. He went above and beyond to make sure our large family group was comfortable and having fun. Cabins were clean and had all the basics for cooking and food prep. Amazing time and we will be back next year!

July 12-14 we had a magical 26-person family reunion at Kit Carson Lodge. We chose the location because 60 years ago I was the little kid running on the paths with my 16 cousins and I’ve never forgotten the beauty of the place. Our 2024 reunion was perfection. Many thanks to Sam, Silvia and his team of helpful staff, who accommodated all of our needs in four cabins and five hotel rooms. We ate in the restaurant for most meals and due to a Hollywood-style fantastic 35-minute hailstorm, they temporarily lost our outdoor seating but the staff pivoted and fit us all in for dinner by converting the Lodge Lobby into a 26-seat dining room. They were brilliant! Thank you Kit Carson Lodge for a lifetime of new amazing family memories—created in just two glorious days with all of you at Kit Carson.

We had an intimate wedding at kit carson lodge and everything was perfect. The location and venue were everything we wanted. All of the staff were super helpful and made it stress free. Food was great, and I’d recommend this venue (not expensive like everything else we looked at) to everyone regardless the size of your wedding!
