I was going to give 4 stars for the overall meal, but then the dessert and their complimentary chips were phenomenal, so 5 star it is.

We went to La Mar to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and got the fixed tasting menu from chef. It had 5 courses. Starting from the nigiri sampler, which was great - we specifically enjoyed the salmon belly nigiris. The second dish was the ceviche sampler - we loved the classic ceviche, but the other two were great, too. Then we were served a seafood sampler with octopus, shrimp and clams. I am not a big octopus fan, but I think the plate was overall ok. The main fish was a halibut with interesting sauce and potato cutlet side. This was the weakest dish out of the entire fixed menu. Lastly, we were presented with the dessert which I don’t know the name for, but it tasted heavenly.

Wow - this place is incredible! I rarely spent that much, but it was worth. The dishes were creative and the taste awesome. It is indeed a Place for special evening. To get most of the place ask the waiter for recommendations and help. The menu card can be overwhelming.

What a great place! Did an early dinner during a layover in San Francisco and we were so happy we stumbled into this restaurant. Food was absolutely excellent, the recommendations from our server were top notch. Service was excellent and the cocktails were just as good. You wont be disappointed eating here!

This is my favorite restaurant in San Francisco. We have dined there many times and have always experienced a perfect meal and great connective service.
We go here every time we are in SF, and this time, we dined there 3 times. Yes, that good!
Empanadas are a must.
Octopus is a definite!
Everything else is amazing. Best Peruvian restaurant I have experienced.

Excellent sharing plates. Great friendly lunchtime service. Inventive fusion food style. Highlights include the chips with salsa, yuca fries with amazing dipping sauce, octopus, rice and beans, and empanadas flight. The desserts we had included the tiramisu and cheesecake. Beautiful creations, but a bit too sweet and tart for my (non dessert loving) taste.
