Che Fico

We had dinner at Che Fico, an authentic Italian restaurant known for its incredible pizza oven and vibrant atmosphere. Upon arrival, our table wasn’t ready, so we waited in the standup area by the bar—a nice spot to enjoy some drinks while passing the time. Our server was warm and welcoming, and the food was undeniably delicious. However, the pasta portion felt quite small for the price we paid. Our pizza arrived late, leading us to cancel one of them, but the restaurant handled it graciously by offering us a complimentary squash dish and letting us take the delayed pizza home at no charge. Despite these hiccups, the overall experience was enjoyable, and the hospitality left a positive impression.

Brunch is pricey but it was great. I was a bit skeptical because of some of the brunch reviews but it did not disappoint. The “uova in purgatorio” (shakshouka with an Italian twist) was delicious, lightly spicy and definitely shareable for 2 people. The maritozzo was great as well (not a traditional version since it’s with ricotta instead of cream).

In 2024, my boyfriend and I made it a goal to try a new restaurant anytime the two of us went out to eat. Che Fico was our last new restaurant of the year. We made a reservation ahead of time, about a week in advance. The interior space of Che Fico is stunning, with plants hanging from the walls, vibrant wallpaper, big windows, and beautiful chandeliers. The space is lively, but at times made it a bit difficult to hear one another from across the table. We started off with cocktails. I ordered the Le Terme and my boyfriend ordered the Fumo Bianco. We then started off with the Insalata Tritata and Salmon Crudo. The flavors in the salad were delicious and paired really well together. I would recommend, but also share that the salad portion was HUGE for just the two of us. We ordered four dishes in total and the salad definitely filled us up quicker than we had anticipated. The salmon crudo was really acidic. The pieces on the outside of the plate weren’t too badly covered in lemon so were able to enjoy those, but the middle pieces in our opinion were too acidic which was a bummer because the salmon cut was really good. Next, came the Gnocchi and it blew us away! The gnocchi melted into your mouth with each bite and it had the perfect amount of truffle on top. I would recommend ordering this dish! Lastly, we ordered the roasted rockfish. I had never eaten rockfish before, but enjoyed the presentation and flavors. Our waitress surprised us with a dessert at the end to celebrate our date night 🥰 I enjoyed the speed at which each dish came out. I appreciated how often our waitress checked in to see how we felt about each plate and provide recommendations. Overall, I enjoyed the food, the ambiance, and service but felt it was a bit pricey compared to other places that offer similar dishes here in the city.

Having dinner at Che Fico was a great experience all around! Immediately as you walk in, the greenery, the tasteful decor, open kitchen, and the buzz of a full restaurant make for a great ambiance. The focaccia was unreal, the suppli was a great starter, and the salads and pastas were unique and tasty! The place is expensive, but that’s something that you know going in, and all in all the food and environment really delivered!

As much as I want to like this place, my two friends and I were here for 2.5 hours during dinner. I love an experience during dinner but 2.5 hours is a little too long. Our server would disappear at times and it took us about 35 minutes after dessert just to get our bill. The food came in extremely small portions, considering the price. The spaghetti was over salted. But I will say that the short rib raviolis were okay. The tiramisu was dry, wouldn’t recommend it for the price we paid. Won’t be coming back here personally but it’s a good place to try.
