My partner and I celebrated our anniversary here over the weekend and it was a wonderful experience, from beginning to end. So many people took great care of us and we're so thankful for their attention to detail and ability to go out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. A staff member who stood out to us on the rooftop was Brendan who made sure we got a great place by the pool and a separate cabana. Drinks and food were excellent, served by Henry. A staff member, "Blue," in the lobby recognized us and made sure to help our friend up to the rooftop to meet us later that day which was cool. Another member, Denim, was very pleasant to talk to and gave us a mini tour in the evening after the bar closed. Management is amazing for checking in on us and making sure we had a great stay. Our room was very clean and aesthetically pleasing with a nice view. I had the best sleep here. Truly memorable experience and we are appreciative! Hope to come back very soon and will recommend to all.

I absolutely love this hotel!!! The staff were absolutely amazing and every detail of the hotel is so unique and spectacular! Marco and Ilse (spelling is probably wrong but she was the one who checked us in) were top notch! These guys checked in with us to ensure our trip was wonderful. I can’t thank them enough! The food was amazing there as well! There was one Spanish guy that worked at the rooftop restaurant who always stopped by to greet us and always remembered us. The rooms are gorgeous, the lobby is so pretty and the hotels water box is a very nice touch. I plan on coming back to this place that was recommended to me and did not disappoint. Highly recommend!!!!

Recent weekend stay at the Santa Monica Proper was the most enjoyable hotel stays I've ever had (and that includes some nice places). This is THE best place to stay in Santa Monica. Rooftop pool and deck is one of the best in all of LA for those who seek a relaxed, low-key vibe with views. Truly a retreat up there. World class hospitality and service - whoever is hiring and training is doing an amazing job. Every single person encountered, from valet to front desk, bell persons, dining staff, maids, was fantastic and happy to be there and contribute to a great guest experience. Individualized attention even on a busy weekend. Excellent brunch on the roof - highly recommended. As a bonus, there's complimentary beach cruisers available from the valet - this was perfect and super convenient for cruising through town and the boardwalk.

We stayed at The Proper Hotel for 4 nights in September and overall had a very nice experience with this relatively new spot. The rooms looks great, have such a warm feel to them, all very new and high quality. The pool on the roof is perfect, good size, plenty of lounges during the week and staff were very friendly and happy to accomodate our needs. The restaurant on the rooftop was also quite fun, a lively vibe all the way until 11pm and the food good (if not somewhat similar to the pool menu). They also offer free bike hire which was a nice touch to help us explore the area.
The only downside really is that the vibe on a weekend is VERY different to the weekday, we found it hard to find space.
