ABOUT SANTA BARBARA COUNTY COURTHOUSE WEDDING VENUE Tucked in the middle of Santa Barbara's downtown, the 1929 Spanish-Moorish Santa Barbara County Courthouse is a historic building noted for its exquisite design and painstakingly kept grounds. Acknowledged as among the most exquisite structures in the country, it provides couples with a lovely backdrop for their wedding celebrations. FACILITIES AND CAPACITY OF SANTA BARBARA COUNTY COURTHOUSE WEDDING VENUE The Courthouse has a range of spectacular locations to suit varying sizes and styles of weddings. Comprising five separate sections—the Sunken Garden, Palm Terrace, Fiesta Stage, Bird of Paradise, and Rotunda Lawn—the main outdoor space is known as the Courthouse Gardens. Jointly set aside, these areas offer a versatile backdrop suitable for accommodating up to 250 guests. Couples have two reserve times: 11 am to 2 pm or 3 pm to 6 pm, which lets them be flexible enough for their wedding preparations. Remember that the courthouse building shuts at 5 p.m., so ceremonies should be scheduled appropriately. The Courthouse hosts modest wedding ceremonies with 15 or fewer attendees in certain spots around the Anacapa and Figueroa Street lawns for more personal events. These free sites are first come, first served and cannot be booked ahead of time. Although these locations provide a lovely scene, they lack the uniqueness of the designated garden spaces. Couples choosing these sites should be aware that the courthouse is a public construction and that wedding venues may not be cordoned off, so public access is always maintained. SERVICES OFFERED SANTA BARBARA COUNTY COURTHOUSE WEDDING VENUE The Santa Barbara County Courthouse offers many services to help to ensure a flawless wedding. Couples may book the Exterior Gardens for three hours for a $1,200 facility charge—which includes a $200 non-refundable application cost. At the reservation, full payment is necessary. Although the location does not provide enhanced sound, modest acoustic music is allowed to improve the wedding environment. Couples are in charge of making plans; the courthouse does not assign officiants. Furthermore excluded from the reservation are wedding preparations; any chairs or tools must be hand-carried to the site. The site has certain rules to protect its historic grounds, including bans on rice, confetti, flower petals, birdseed, open fires, and eating or drinking during events.
