May 4, 2025 it's a huge park, very beautiful and peaceful. hard to get there, so few people.
a small parking lot on 130 near the lake. free, but full. go to the ranger station. lots of parking, $6.
take 130 to get there. don't take Qwimby: very narrow, steep, and curves.
bring water, sandwiches, suntan lotion, snacks, etc. no stores for many miles.
nice lake, but no path around it. the park is best for mountain bikes.

The park offers an impressive variety of trails that cater to all levels, from easy strolls to more challenging hikes. The scenery is breathtaking, with rolling hills, serene lakes, and plenty of wildlife sightings—perfect for photography or just soaking in the beauty of the outdoors.
The facilities are excellent, with clean picnic areas, well-marked trails, and ample parking. It’s also a fantastic spot for camping, with spacious sites that are well-maintained and surrounded by nature’s tranquility.
Whether you’re hiking, biking, or simply enjoying a peaceful day outdoors, this park has something for everyone. It’s a great escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and a place where you can truly relax and recharge. I highly recommend visiting Joseph D. Grant County Park—you won’t be disappointed!

Feb 15, 2025 Uncrowded county park in the eastern San Jose foothills. Plenty of trails for all levels, picnic tables, camping, and great historic value can be found here. The drive up is steep and windy but worth the adventure. The drive down is easier and features terrific views of San Jose.

Mar 21, 2025 The Hall's Valley trail is a delightful, relatively flat trail with expansive views of Mt. Hamilton observatory and the verdant ridges. I've seen bobcats on this trail twice before. Today, we saw a group of wild pigs. I also saw what may be a rare sighting of a vermillion flycatcher, hundreds of miles out of range. In my six decades in California, I've never seen this bird! It's definitely worth the trip up the mountain. We hiked starting at 1 on a Thursday and saw no people on the trails - zero!

Apr 30, 2025 There is a real diversity of landscapes including meadows, hills and a lake. Lots of oak trees, some covered in mosses. The facilities were all well maintained.
